Ogijima
Walk and enjoy the art through a maze-like alley
An island full of nostalgia, with stone steps and alleys that sew private houses like terraced fields. It is an island where you can enjoy a mysterious atmosphere where the past and present are fused, with art using vacant houses scattered around.
Recommendation
of Ogijima
-
- Rikuji Makabe "Project for wall paintings in lane, Ogijima, wall alley"
- A colorful mural that suddenly appears in the alley of a maze-like village. The silhouette of the landscape is drawn in fragments on the waste materials collected on the island and installed on the outer wall of a private house. The contrast between the nostalgic island landscape and the colorful murals is novel.
-
- Toyotamahime Shrine
- Known as a place related to the legend of Toyotama-hime, which remains on the island, it is known as "Tamahime-san" by the people of the island. It leads to the approach from the large torii gate of the port. Known as the best view spot on the island, you can see the beautiful scenery unique to Ogijima by looking back at the stairs leading to the approach.
-
- Ogijima Light house
- Built in 1895, it is made of granite and is a rare unpainted lighthouse nationwide. It has also been selected as one of the "50 Lighthouses in Japan". At the adjacent "Ogijima Lighthouse Museum", materials related to the history of Ogijima Lighthouse are exhibited.
